Experiments in collage

There a teeny bits of paper all over the floor. And in my hair. And down my sleeve.*

For some reason my painting is finally getting looser again but I think to compensate I’m cutting out precise little bits and bobs to make pleasing composed scenes. I think I like the tactile nature of it - not only the act of creating them but after they’re finished the raised edges catch the light and the images almost seem more real.

I’ve settled upon creating some bookmarks and mini pictures. I don’t normally plan that much but I’ve sketched out some ideas for some possible scenes. I’m a bit worried that they’re going to be really labour intensive but if I make them a mixture of painted sections and then cut outs that will help.

* this is much better than when I took up glass fusing where despite building a box to contain everything, minute pieces of glass got everywhere through the house including embedding themselves into everyone’s feet…I was not very popular.
